I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess and say thatt you probably think Twitter is stupid. Lol afterall it is just mainly status updates. I agree with you, it is pretty pointless.

But it's also addicting yo and pretty cool when you actually have friends on it :P And thus the Twitter thread was born. Post up!

@shamw00t

Oh and Twitter is best when you link it to text messaging or via app to your cell phone

I think I have an account on there that I never use.

I guess you would say it "@chipputer" or whatever. It's linked to my cell and everything, I just never really use it.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Twitter is the one internet trend which young people have picked up much more reluctantly than older people.

Also twittter is gay I already have facebook statuses and instant messaging kthx.

We're being made to use these for our journalism class (because our teacher can't think of anything else for us to do)

Yes but facebook arose when there was a need for a new myspace type service. Its a progression basically:

Xanga got replaced by most people with Myspace. Myspace then got replaced by Facebook and since facebook there has been no need for any other social network service Imo. Twitter then came around and it basically was just the facebook status updates on overdrive so that in itself is pointless.

In short, you really don't need twitter, livejournal, etc since facebook does most of these things already. One social networking site always seems to come out on top and facebook seems to take that place for now but come a few years from now... who knows (the layout has been kinda bad lately though imo... it was better 2 years ago).

"I don't like it, so therefore it's pointless."

Not everybody likes Facebook at all. Personally I find it has a lot of pointless... well... crap on it. Not everyone likes Myspace. Not everyone likes Xanga. Not everyone likes LiveJournal. Not everyone likes Twitter.

All of them are pointless. There was never any "need" for a "new myspace type service." There was never any need for Myspace in the first place. Twitter is, essentially, a mobile social networking site. With Facebook you're limited to what you can do on your computer, or to phones that allow you to use Facebook (or limited mobile browsers). With Twitter you're able to have full blown discussions, as well as simply update your status, all on the go with any cell phone that is text message enabled. There's even a hidden benefit of being able to text back and forth with someone if you don't have a cell phone, by simply sending messages through twitter clients and such.

It appeals to an entirely different crowd. You don't like it, but you have no reason to call it pointless when you're a fan of Facebook.

Oh yeah facebook has a ton of useless applications on it (like I said it was better 2 years ago before they made all their layout changes). Its more than "I don't like it" I just don't feel there is a need for it when you can do that already elsewhere. And yeah I know not everyone likes fb but the general trend that I've noticed (or at least on most of the east coast) is that people went from xanga to myspace to facebook and stayed there.

I mean you don't NEED any of these services but I just feel things have gone overboard with the number of choices. Its more complicated than necessary. Maybe I'm overlooking things, maybe I'm wrong, and maybe its good to have all these choices but that's how I feel about it.
