I'm trying to point out the absurdity of differentiating between individuals who were born with or without a purpose.

animals are food. people are not.

wait what? Since when?

People are food too. :lolwut: Even excluding cannibalism, we can be food for other predators. Lions, even dogs will eat people.

But that's not what we're talking about.

Just because we feel our lives have some purpose doesn't change a lion's mind when it's hungry. "OH NO I CANT EAT THAT GUY HE'S GONNA GET MARRIED TOMORROW". I'm sure if animals could have aspirations of their own we would eat them anyway. Not that there would be anything wrong with it.

Yes, but lions and dogs have not formulated methods of raising multiple humans purely for purposes of food, have they?

If we were to force factory farmers to treat each animal humanely, the cost of meat would skyrocket and there would be less of it readily available.

Next we're going to have people going on about "plants rights" and whining about pesticides being used on vegetables and such (which people already do whine, but that's only due to the harmful effect on _humans_ when we ingest some of those chemicals).

We have to consider all the cons of the way things are done now. I'm talking even beyond the ethics. Keeping 1000 animals all bunched together cultivates diseases. Not to mention all the injections and hormones they put in them actually affect US since we eat it.

And yeah idk what plant rights have to do with the harmful chemicals they spray on the plants we eat too.

The whole process of our food is fucked up, and new things come to light everyday about the dangers of cutting corners in the name of "keeping costs down". There has to be a point where we're just paying to poison ourselves.

I have no problems with animals being food or whatever. Let some man come in and punch a cow directly in the face so what. I'm talking about how the process is fucked up BEYOND that. These issues are very intertwined, so its hard to talk about the one topic and stay soley on it.

The only thing I fear from factory farming are is the social effect, animal right defenders would probably be ready to persecute if I supported factory farming

Which is why there's alternatives. If you live on a farm you can raise your own food.

Go out hunting (though some people don't like the gamey taste of animals that you shoot in the wild, I personally love the taste of things like deer and such, but I couldn't shoot one if I had to (I'm a pansy)).

Our food process IS messed up. Always will be. Organic foods are becoming more popular, if you haven't noticed.

As of right now, the industry is more important, especially in the economic trouble we're having.

Are you a vegetarian, by any chance?

:angryman:

Heavens no.

I was just talking about how I'm brand loyal to Burger King earlier lol. Frankly I was just arguing with you out of boredom.
