No seriously, democracy is terrible. The masses are too dumb to decide things. When something like 60% of the population believes we have to please some invisible sky fairy with our laws I think it's time to draw the line. Leave it to the educated elite imo.

The point of democracy is to hear what the people want. If people don't want that then they don't want that. You don't have to live there (I don't think you live there anyway).

Civil rights and liberties (among other things) should be above what the people want.

Oh please, that sort of concept barely works here, with only about 20 regular people around. If you think it'll work with an entire state... LOL.

Sometimes (read:usually) the people don't know what they want/is good for them.

But they clearly knew what they wanted. You can't impose your own values on a separate community, proto, no matter how much you want to.

You can't have democracy without freedom. If you limit the rights of others than you're limiting democracy to an oligarchy.

Well that's just the thing. Democracy clearly doesn't work for our society at all. This is more the "land of the free (for some)" than anything. Anybody who denies that is delusional.

But at the same time I like the concept of us being a union but being able to have different states with different things allowed here and there. IDK.

We don't have democracy here, so you can't really say if it works or not.

I mean you can stretch the term out and I'm sure you can apply it here, but largely we're a polyarchy. At BEST a republic, but that term doesn't really cut it considering how the elections are run.

"educated elite" > ignorant masses

What is "educated" and what is "ignorance" in this case?
