As someones who has lived in both the north and south, yes people in the south are generally "dumber". I'm not too sure who to blame, but it's probably the religion and the culture of conservatism.

Well, not dumb per se, but they can have really silly opinions or beliefs. Or maybe the majority of my family down south just sucks, I dunno.

They are really fucking nice down there, though. I always enjoy that.

Seriously, what the hell man, as long as you don't rub what they consider any "undesirable traits" in their faces (like thinking Obama is NOT Muslim or Kenyan), people are ridiculously nice in the south. No, I'm pretty sure that you're the one with the wrong idea, bro. The issue is you're talking about Florida (big cities, etc) and Texas (borders Mexico). That stuff is bound to happen there. It doesn't happen so much around other places. If you're claiming "I hear stories," well, news flash, Robie, religious extremism, racism, etc, happens EVERYWHERE.

I hear stories about the hospitality, but looking at the history it doesn't seem like a very nice place.

Oh yeah, racism. Yep, that's a a pretty big problem down there, yeah. :/ The religiousness I can ignore but I would probably get really sick of people going "lolniggers" and "lolspics".

Still, I could pass for acceptable by them, so I could spend a good amount of time there before either they catch onto the fact I don't think like them or it drives me crazy. I haven't spent longer than a week at a time down there so yeah I might be coming at it from a slightly rose-colored-glasses angle :/

I'm not talking about big cities, In the cities its relatively bearable the shit you put up with compared to the more rural areas. Idk its like those people are less exposed to the world or something, they are even more terrible. I would never wander out to those places alone. And yes while terrible things happen everywhere, its widely known that they happen with more frequency in the south than the north (speaking about the US).

Yeah, the history is kinda bad, but, at least around here, there's no racism problem (Newport, KY all the way up through Independence, KY).

The hospitality is top notch, though. I've not gone anywhere where I haven't been treated well, or the service wasn't excellent. All the people I've run into are very nice, except the teens, but they're all at that "rebel or die" phase in their lives so I excuse it a bit.

I really have no idea what Robie's going on about. I have family and friends who live in the south and they haven't said anything about anything he's talking about. These friends are black, white, a few hispanics. :idk:

Kentucky is cheaper to live in and it's close enough to where mom works that we can live there.

And hey, the South is only gonna get worse from here on in. You have this populace of poor white trash most of them druggies, thinking they are superior, very hostile towards any spics 'invadin'. Then you got the fact that THE SPICS REALLY ARE INVADING LOL. The drug trade and the influx of latinos are all coming in from the south. Shit, this place is only gonna get more violent everyday.

It's not rudeness vs politeness so much as people go out of their way to be really friendly and nice in the south, and people up here tend to be too busy or just not give a shit. Everything is way more relaxed down there, which is another reason I love going there, since I'm a goddamn sloth.
