In our last English class we were having a huge debate on it. Most people took the side that factory farming isn't wrong.

What is your stance on this? Should strict laws be passed that force farms to treat their animals humanely? Do farm animals that are destined for short lives and quick deaths even deserve to be treated humanely?

Actually, it is tougher and courser due to what free range animals eat and how much they get to work their muscles out.

Factory farmed is more tender.

This.

There's a distinct difference in the taste of the meat when it's factory farmed. Now, if they're just letting the animals go wild and letting them eat terrible stuff, the meat will be nasty, but that's not what a good farmer does.

Also, I'm not usually an advocate of mistreating an animal, but if it's going to be food anyway, then it's a whatever from me.

This thread is making me want a delicious steak. Also sushi, but I always want sushi.

Really, whatever makes my animal-based food taste best is cool by me. And someday when they can artificially create these foods and have them be indistinguishable from the real thing, that will kick all sorts of ass.

Dying versus being born and raised to feed people, in a factory, are two different things. Don't even try to compare them.

A human dying versus an animal being born and raised in a factory? I never compared such a thing. I compared factory farmed animals versus domestically raised animals.

What about humans who were born and raised to be slaves?

Well, they're humans. They should be treated HUMANely. They are not animals, so "animal rights" (whatever that means) should not be applied to them.

Or are you trying to say that they're not humans for some reason? :hmm:

wait did no one get the joke? it was cause he said "they are completely different" and then said "don't compare them". It's one of those sayings that people use that don't really hold up. that was the joke.

Are you a vegetarian, by any chance?

Animals that are born and raised to be food HAVE a purpose. Their purpose is to be a food source. All you need to do is keep muscle and fat content up on these animals. You don't need to treat miscellaneous animal #103840239843 "humanely."

A domesticated animal is different, as usually a product given off by the animal (eggs, milk, etc) is the goal, then, and if you treat the animal poorly the product will be bad.
